Description

Artists include: Philip Akkerman, Andrew Bick, AK Dolven, Tal R, and Annelies Strba. This work includes essays by Jennifer Thatcher and Andrew Bick. This catalogue accompanies the exhibition The Kingston Turnpike, being held in 2006 at The Turnpike Gallery, Leigh and Stanley Picker Gallery, Kingston University. This is an exhibition which merges painting, photography, video and installation, the formal and informal, figuration and abstraction but in which the main idea is how these different works interact with each other, within the space and with the audience. An exhibition called The Kingston Turnpike in galleries of the same or related names also relies on vigour and individual artistic conviction more than a seamless plot and brilliant curatorial strategy. It is the intention of this project to disallow such perfect curatorial strategies on the basis that working without them is more interesting.
