Patricia Whelehan is Professor of Anthropology atSUNY-Potsdam, USA, and serves as the campus AIDS EducationCoordinator. A certified sex therapist, mentor, diplomate, andclinical supervisor with the American Board of Sexology and acertified HIV test counselor in both California and New York, sheis the author of The Anthropology of AIDS: A GlobalPerspective (2009) and the editor of The World's OldestProfession: An Anthropological Perspective. Sex Workers as RealPeople (2001) and Women and Health: Cross-CulturalPerspectives (1988). With Anne Bolin, she is co-author ofInterdisciplinary Perspectives on Human Sexuality: Biological,Psychological and Cultural Perspectives (2009) andPerspectives on Human Sexuality (2nd edition, 2003) as wellas Human Sexuality: An Anthropological Perspective (1999).She is the recipient of the President s Award for Excellencein Service, the Phi Eta Sigma award for Outstanding Teacher of theYear, and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi in 2008. Anne Bolin is Professor of Anthropology in the Department ofSociology and Anthropology at Elon University, USA, and is therecipient of the Elon University Distinguished Scholar Award andthe Senior Faculty Research Fellowship Award (2009-2011). She haspresented and published extensively in the areas of women andgender, human sexuality, the body, sporting bodies, genderidentity, and gender variance. With Patricia Whelehan, she isco-author of Interdisciplinary Perspectives on HumanSexuality: Biological, Psychological and CulturalPerspectives (2009) and Perspectives on Human Sexuality(2nd edition, 2003). She is also co-author of AthleticIntruders: Women, Culture and Exercise (2003) and author of InSearch of Eve: Transsexual Rites of Passage (1988). She is aDiplomat with the American Board of Sexology, a certified sexresearcher, and a Fellow of the Society for AppliedAnthropology.
