Description

The extensively revised 2ed of the Geopolitics Reader draws together the most important political, geographical, historical and sociological readings of geopolitics in the early 21st century. Whilst the reader retains its five part structure, the selection of readings have been updated to account for recent developments in the critical study of geopolitics and the post 9/11 geopolitical landscape. Section 3, Geopolitics in the 21st century is now organised around 3 key questions: the transformed nature of threats in the new millennium, the debate over the hegeomonic position of the US and non- American perspectives on contemporary geopolitics. Section 4, Environmental and Technoscientific Geopolitics has been broadened to incorporate issues in technoscience, biowarfare and oil politics. Section 5 on Anti-Geopolitics now considers terrorism, itself a form of resistance. The reader is guided through the divergent viewpoints of global conflict and change by the editors comprehensive introductions and critical commentaries at the start of each section. Visual 'geopolitical texts' in the form of political cartoons are integrated throughout.
