Description

This monograph provides a comprehensive overview of fundamental scientific insights into the geographical features of a country which was and still is in the centre of the geopolitical battle of the large world powers and especially neighboring countries. Author Biography:

Haris Gekić was born in 1984 in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He finished primary and secondary school in Bugojno. He studied geography at University of Sarajevo. He graduated in 2007, finished his master thesis in 2011 and doctoral dissertation in 2016 in the field of Human Geography. He has been working at the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo, since 2007, currently as associate professor of Human Geography. He is chief of Cathedra for Human Geography at Department of Geography. He is deputy chief editor of “Geografski pregled”, oldest geography scientific journal in Bosnia and Herzegovina. His research interests include population geography, urban geography, rural geography, and political geography of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is one of the chief organizers of the Congress of Geographers of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is the author of six books and more than 50 papers. He is a member of the Geographical Society of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He participated in six COST EU projects. Aida Bidžan-Gekić was born in 1982 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2005 she finished an undergraduate programme at Department of Geography, Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo. She received her master’s degree (2011) and doctorate (2016) from Department of Geography. She has been working at the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo, since 2008, currently as associate professor of Regional Geography. She is technical editor of “Geografski pregled”, oldest geography scientific journal in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The spheres of her scientific research are world regional geography and tourism geography of Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is member of the Geographical Society of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is one of the organizers of the Congress of Geographers of Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is the author of more than 50 papers and four books. She participated in four scientific projects. Nusret Drešković was born in 1966 in Plav, Montenegro. He graduated the geographical studies at the Department of Geography of Faculty of Science of University of Sarajevo in 1994. Since 1995 he works at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo, currently as full professor of Physical Geography and GIS. He participated in more than 25 scientific projects. He was President of Geographical Society in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for 8 years. Currently, he is dean of the Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo. His field of research covers climatology, meteorology and GIS. He is one of the chief organizers of the Congress of Geographers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and International tourism, hospitality and management conference. He is the author of more than 100 papers and several books. Ranko Mirić was born in 1965 in Visoko, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He studied geography at University of Sarajevo. He graduated in 1994 and started his doctoral thesis in the field of Regional Geography. Since 1996 he works at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo, currently as associate professor of Regional Geography. He is president of Geographical Society in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and chief editor of “Geografski pregled”, oldest geography scientific journal in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was vice dean of Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo from 2016 to 2020. His field of research covers regional geography of Bosnia and Herzegovina, tourism regions, geographical regionalization and regional geography of European Union. He is one of the chief organizers of the Congress of Geographers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and International tourism, hospitality and management conference. He is the author of more than 100 papers. Péter Reményi was born in 1978 in Pécs, Hungary. In 2002 he received a master’s degree in geographyand in 2017 in history at the University of Pécs. He received his doctorate in geography at the Doctorate School of Earth Sciences at the University of Pécs in 2009. He has been working at the Institute of Geography at the University of Pécs since 2005, currently as associate professor. His research interest covers political geography, Balkan studies, state and nation building and border studies. He is one of the chief organizer of the Hungarian Conference on Political Geography, deputy director of the Center for Eastern Mediterranean and Balkan Studies, editor of Mediterranean and Balkan Forum, member of the Hungarian Geographical Society. He is the secretary of the Political Geography Sub-committee of the Committee of Social Geography of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is the author of more than 100 papers.
