William Walker is a prolific fictional writer. His major piece of work involves a character by the name of Victor Vance. He's a man's man and a woman's man. In spite of the fact that he created the character, Williams begins to hate the character. His wife, Danielle, desires that William be like Victor. In search of an escape, William switches genres and Engages a new form of nonfiction. He begins writing newspaper column stories on Real life Americanwar heroes from World War II, Korea and the Vietnam conflict. But the two year assignment causes stress and strain within his marriage. He must find release but he cannot quit for contractual reasons. He must choose one final hero to write about. But then Danielle finds out and is furious. She leaves him, only to be sucked back in by a conspiracy of magnanimous proportion. The last article lands William in a deep abyss.William is accused of being a Soviet spy all at a time when conventional warfare has broken out between NATO forces and Soviet forces in Germany.
