Dreams are important because only in dreams can we act out fears and wishes that are deeply repressed. Our dreams allow us to experience fears, anger, and desires that are disguised by symbols, ancient symbols, which are the oldest language known to humankind. Our brain cannot recognize the difference between what is real and what is imaginary. That is basically the whole reason that we can safely experience anything we need to recognize, to confront, and resolve in the symbols of dreams. Once we see the whole truth of the symbols, that which is too harmful and painful to accept in our waking world, they become non-threatening. It takes courage to make this journey.
