Informative and easy to follow and an attractive book. As I need info I pick up the book and read. I think that's what makes a good ‘how-to’ reference book.

Description

Inside, discover all the major pottery techniques used the world over, from time-honoured traditional methods to exciting new developments. These include coiling, combing, resist decoration, sgraffito, slabbing and texturing clay. Once you've learnt these essential techniques, put your new skills into practice with a wealth of inspirational examples, ranging from bowls, vases and cups, to plaques, spheres and sculpture. In addition, advice on materials and equipment is provided to help you on your crafting journey, including kilns, glazes, moulds and more. Finally, a gallery of stunning images is featured throughout the book, demonstrating an array of beautiful designs by established potters and ceramicists that will inspire both beginner and experienced potters.

Author Biography:

Peter Cosentino is an Italian-born teacher and potter, with many years' experience in ceramics. Trained in art and design at Worcester College of Education, he taught in secondary schools until 1979, when he left teaching to set up his pottery workshop and gallery, Gallery 21, in Yardley, Birmingham. Since then he has sold his collection of designs in the UK and internationally, held exhibitions across the midlands and north of England, and is a member of both The Midland Potters Association and Northants Guild of Artist Craftsmen. In addition, Peter has written numerous articles and books on the subject of pottery; his work has featured in Ceramic Review and www.theceramicartist.com, and his books include Creative Pottery (Ebury Press) and The Potters' Project Book (Headline Press). The first edition of this book achieved global success, and has been sold and translated in over 10 different countries. Peter lives in Northamptonshire, UK.
