Description

In Peter Foot's latest book, the Drums of War, we follow the adventures of John Drake who joins the Royal Marines shortly before the declaration of war with Germany. His adventures take us to different parts of the World as he sees action at Dunkirk, Crete and Singapore. The young Marine's confidence with women grows as he matures; his engagements with those he meets make for stimulating reading. As fortress Singapore surrenders to the Japanese, Drake along with several others crew a yacht and attempt to sail to Australia. They finally reach Darwin after several encounters with their Japanese pursuers. Here they are persuaded to join the "Coast Watchers" before being allowed to return to England. Now part of a special unit Drake learns new skills and sees action in the Mediterranean, including the invasion of Sicily. Further action follows in the "D" Day landings before he finally goes with his unit to prepare for the re-taking of Malaya. The invasion of Malaya is postponed and with the end of the War he finds himself on the Island of Penang as the Japanese finally surrender. Drake spends some time in Malaya on a secret operation, then moves to Ceylon where a chain of events changes his life forever.
