Description

The Dadian @ 25 presents the offerings of 25 artists and 6 curators from across its rich history, whose visual mediations have consistently offered a brave and profound exploration of inward self-knowledge, even as their chosen materials and images have challenged viewers to scrutinize their own spiritual lives. Their artwork and revealing, inspirational reflections have been recorded in this catalogue which accompanied the 2014 exhibition. The visionary concept, controversial design campaign, and remarkable generosity of donors are chronicled, shedding light on the mission and legacy of the Dadian's visual ministry over the past quarter century. For 25 years, the Dadian Gallery has been unique in the United States, offering exhibitions in a museum-quality setting situated at the heart of a theological seminary. Since its inception in 1989, the Dadian has been the premier venue for artwork created at the intersection of art and faith, with no profit motive attached to the sale of individual artworks. The Dadian has sought, showcased, and celebrated hundreds of established and emerging artists, whose creative energies have, at times, defied mainstream and academic art world norms to probe difficult sacred and personal questions. The Dadian Gallery is a program of The Henry Luce III Center for the Arts and Religion, which sponsors a variety of cultural events exploring the intersection between art and religion and promoting dialogue between artists and theologians.
