"This could have been great with a better design team"
1 stars"

Two things killed this for me.

  1. The level design is horrible. Totally linear and completely unsurprising: “Corridor, narrow path between burnt out cars, Oh, some ammo and health packs.. Ooh look an open area, there must be a fight coming up”.
  2. The AI is beyond horrible. You can either sit in the battle view and micromanage your 2 imbeciles or you leave them to follow your lead and you'll die… A lot.

“No1 go over there and take cover, No2 go flank them on the other side. No No1, don't follow him, stay in cover. Look No2, when I sent No1 back into cover, that didn't mean you could stop in plain view and look confused, oh look you're dead. Oh No1 is now running over to heal No2 in the middle of that open area and now he's dead too. Guess I'll reload.”

The idea had a lot of promise and the mechanics all work pretty well. I don't know if they didn't have the budget for good level and AI design, or whether it was rushed out before those guys could do their job, but whatever the reason, they really screwed it up.

Only buy this if you're an X-Com fanatic who absolutely MUST have every X-Com title every published.

Purchased on Mighty Ape

Great game, retro style, kinda oldskool graphics – just adds to the atmosphere

"Amazing" Purchased on Mighty Ape

This game combines aliens and the “Good ol' days”, which actually makes for a brilliant storyline that is both simple and really fun. The graphics look great, the sounds are great, the need for tactics is riveting, and I can hardly stop playing once I start. This game is a definite must have for anyone even remotely interested in shooter games

Set in 1962 at the height of the Cold War, The Bureau tells the origin story of the clandestine XCOM organisation’s first encounter with a mysterious and devastating enemy.

Originally established as America’s covert defense against the Soviet Union, The Bureau must adapt and overcome a threat unlike anything the world has faced before.

As special agent William Carter, players will call the shots and pull the trigger, leading their squad of agents in the high-stakes secret war for humanity’s survival. Paramount to repelling the outside threat is The Bureau’s ability to cover-up the enemy’s existence in order to prevent worldwide panic.

  • Uncover the truth behind mankind's first enemy invasion
  • Unique game in 1960's America
  • Be the Field Leader as William Carter, Call the shots, Pull the trigger
  • Formulate the plan of Action in Tactical Combat as you command your squad
  • No second chances- pay for your mistakes with Permadeath
