Bloc Party singer Kele Okereke is punching well above his weight on his debut solo album, ‘The Boxer’. With Bloc Party currently in hiatus, their enigmatic front man took the opportunity to book some solo studio time and let his creative impulses run free.
The resulting album pushes the boundaries of pop and electronica and firmly establishes Kele as a bold & genuinely thrilling artist in his own right. “The key for the sound of the record” says Kele “…was to take things as harsh and as physical as I could make it. The reason for going there was that these are the sounds that make me the happiest in the world.”
With influences ranging from Gary Numan and Adam Ant to Michael Jackson, Kele has made a wild and fearless album marked by both its ambition and its sense of the new.
'The Boxer' was recorded in New York with Brooklyn-based bedroom production prodigy XXXchange (who also crafted the sound of the last Spank Rock record).
