The Big Hit
Disillusioned and divorced middle-aged thespian Étienne (Merad) accepts an arts rehabilitation role, leading a theatre workshop group at a correctional facility, under the watchful eye of open-minded but cautious warden Ariane (Marina Hands). His program attracts a motley group, and Étienne, surprised by the raw talent he unearths, comes up with the idea of workshopping Beckett's “Waiting for Godot”.
Critic Reviews:
- " You don't even need to be well versed in Beckett to have a good time. " – Chris Knight (National Post)
- " Less would be more, as Beckett knew all too well. " – Amber Wilkinson (Eye for Film)
- " It's a too-cute conceit, that inmates above all can identify with the confinement of Vladimir and Estragon's existential longing. But it's effective in its broad, touching strokes. " – Stephen Garrett (Book & Film Globe)
