This study addresses recent progress in synthetic diamond technology now made possible by the emerging Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) synthesis technique. This method makes available for the first time the high performance properties of diamond in a variety of unique shapes and forms not available from nature or from the current High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) diamond synthesis method.

Author Biography

Karl E. Spear is Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University - Penn State. He received a B.S. - mathematics - from Baker University, a Ph.D. - physical chemistry - from the University of Kansas, and studied 15 months at the University of M nster, Germany on an NSF Graduate Fellowship.
