Description

Donnie Munro has enjoyed considerable further success as a solo artist and writer. He has recently embarked on a series of acoustic shows where he has taken the opportunity of revisiting a wide range of material spanning the entire length of his impressive career.
For almost two decades, Donnie Munro was the voice of Scottish Rock Band, Runrig, which went on to become one of Scotland's most popular bands. In 1991 the band performed to an audience of over 50,000 people on the banks of Loch Lomond and this remains Scotland's biggest ever audience for any one band, an achievement yet to be repeated by any other single Scottish band.

The former Runrig front* man has worked with some of Scotland's finest musicians and has
enjoyed considerable further success as a solo artist and writer, where his various albums were greeted with great critical acclaim with one being voted Album of the Year in the 1996 Scottish Music Awards

This acoustic project was warmly received by his audiences and resulted in a series of sell*out shows in Denmark, Germany and his native Scotland * Donnie decided to record some of these shows for a new acoustic live album, very much as a musical anthology. He stripped the presentation of the material down to a very strong and direct acoustic trio with his producer/engineer, Eric Cloughley on acoustic guitar and backing vocals and Scottish Traditional Music sensation, Maggie Adamson on fiddle. This compelling collection of songs shows the range, depth and intensity of Donnie Munro's voice, and features a mix of traditional Gaelic songs, RUNRIG classics and songs written by Donnie accompanied by the exquisite playing of Cloughley and Adamson. In describing the project Munro said,

‘The idea of recording a fully acoustic live album really takes me back to where it all began for me a as a very young musician on the Isle of Skye, where, prior to the onset of my early Runrig days. For me, performance has always been about delivering the song and with the acoustic performance in particular there is that opportunity to strip everything back to its most basic and most direct communicative elements, and for the narrative to take hold. I have always felt as a performer, that when you find the deepest connection with the song as a singer, is where you 'give yourself up’ to the song and in essence you engage in that ‘sweet surrender’.
