Description

A triumph of originality and storytelling, Swamp Wizard and the Robots, sweeps readers into a future world churning with wizards, robots, phantoms, pirates, mysteries, and affairs of the heart. The haunting story begins with the irreversible destruction of American democracy by fanatical politicians, their foul deeds applauded by their rigid supporters. Agile robots then rise in urgent revolution against dishonorable human rule and the rot lying just beneath the surface of everyday life. This Robotic Revolution of 2060 sees a family of magicians--they call themselves the Wizards--and their closest friends flee to an uninhabited North Carolina isle south of the Great Dismal Swamp. They camouflage their existence and learn to live well without electricity or gadgetry. The story continues, years later, when a bold young descendant of the magicians, Anselm the Wizard, falls in love with a courageous young woman named Amelia. They decide to flee from disaster and begin a dangerous, spellbinding adventure into the unknown on a tiny, ancient steamboat, accompanied by two mischief-prone companions, Skybo the Crow and Lucas the Squirrel. As Anselm and Amelia steam toward a supposed safe haven in southeastern North Carolina, they encounter graves, ghosts, secrets, perils, miracles, and naked romantic passions, but a staggering surprise awaits them at the end of their gripping journey.
