Very nice kettle, not too loud but not exactly quiet for a kettle. The base has a dampener to prevent you from slamming the kettle down and potentially damaging a component. The switch to boil has a nice satisfying click. Really my only issue with it is when near full capacity it is difficult to maintain orientation of the kettle since the handle is smooth with no grip surface or shaping for hands.
