Description

The first authorised biography of one of Britain's best-loved sportsmen. Sir Stirling Craufurd Moss raced professionally over 500 times until his near fatal crash in 1962. At the end of his racing career, he was the most famous Briton - no footballer, jockey, boxer or pop star has approached the national adulation Moss received. In this book Robert Edwards recounts the life of this extraordinary man, whose tally of wins was proportionately higher than that of any other driver, ever, by a wide margin. During his colourful racing career, Stirling Moss was incredibly gifted and competitive, and he has talked in detail to Robert Edwards about his eventful life, from the bullying at school which helped forge his competitive spirit to the crash that almost ended his life.

Author Biography:

Sir Stirling Moss OBE is arguably the greatest all-round racing driver of all time and a true icon of the motor-racing world. Known during his career as 'Mr Motor Racing' he became a professional driver in 1948, at the age of 18, racing a Cooper 500. For four years he finished runner-up in the Formula 1 Drivers World Championship. His sportsmanship at the Portuguese GP allowed Mike Hawthorn to win the 1958 Championship title by half a point at his expense. He raced 107 different types of car, across all classes of motor sport, during his remarkable career. After 20 years as a City and Wall Street analyst and trader, Robert Edwards wrote his first book on a private passion: Aston Martin cars. Since then he has written many books in the field of motor racing including Archie and the Listers, voted both book of the year and of the decade by the motoring press. He is a regular contributor to MOTOR SPORT and the DAILY TELEGRAPH.
