Rey has admittedly been my favourite Star Wars character since her introduction in 2015's ‘The Force Awakens’, and so, as a self-proclaimed nerd, I had to jump on the merchandising bandwagon and purchase the Black Series figure. The Force Awakens figure was nice, but not great, as it struggled to even look female let alone compare to Daisy Ridley. When I saw the announcement of this figure, I was super happy – finally, a Rey figure in my preferred line that actually looked like Rey! And this DOES look like Rey, make no mistake. Comparing to the old figure, this new figure has much nicer proportions and a very screen-accurate likeness, as well as superior articulation; the single-jointed elbows are able to bend much further than the standard, and the legs are much more poseable thanks to the adjustment of the ‘drape’ of the fabric in her outfit. She also features some pretty nice accessories; her staff (which has been updated from the 2015 sculpt to allow her to actually wear it over her shoulder), lightsaber (a superior retooling), and the blaster Han Solo gave her in TFA (super cool). The outfit is also considerably more realistic than the TFA version, with convincing texturing and a matte finish with no waxy-looking plastic. The paint job is much cleaner on this figure; the face apps are tight and in line with the sculpt, and there is minimal slop or streaking on the figure. Take care to watch for slop along the belt, and be sure to check the eyes and hairline. Luckily for me, I received a figure with none of these issues – thanks, Mighty Ape! I fully recommend this version of Rey, regardless of whether or not you already have the TFA Rey. The sheer superiority of this one will blow your mind.
