Description

Split tells how one event can change the lives of many. Mary, a clever and crafty Native American child, accompanies her parents to the townas hardware store where her father is shot and her mother is raped. Despite the hate crimes, Mary befriends Susan, a Caucasian girl, and protects her throughout the story. The main antagonist, Jake, is both mayor and leader of a satanic cult in the very town that borders Maryas reservation. The story begins when young, pregnant Susan runs away from home. She ends up in California desperate for food and shelter, where she is easy prey for Jake. Mary meets up with Susan at the juvenile detention center. They immediately bond. Susan is chosen as Jakeas next sacrifice to Satan. Maryas people come to the aid of Susan. There is a fierce gun battle. Despite Susan surviving, she has drunk demon blood. Maryas ghostly body puts Susan into a deep sleep to protect the outside world from her evil fury. While Susan sleeps, Jake and Mary battle over all those who dare inhabit the house. Mary befriends Rose, whose family inhabits the house. In a dramatic finish to part three, Mary guides Rose out of the house. When the doctors at St. Maryas decide to terminate Susanas life support, Mary appears and wakes up Susan. Now Mary has a dilemma. Should she kill Susan or continue to wait for a sign from her God, the Sky God, that will cleanse Susanas demonic blood? In the final battle between Jake and Mary, there is an unforseen twist. One of Jakeas ghostly followers turns on him. Mary thinks she is victorious. Jake enters Susanas body before he is killed. In the heart-stopping ending, the Sky God appears to Mary.
