Description

Efavirenz is an anti-viral agent drug which is poorly water soluble drug. In the present study micromeritics properties and dissolution behavior of drug significantly improved by spherical crystallization. PVP K 30 used as polymer and chloroform, used as bridging liquid in this study. Dichloromethane and water used as goo solvent and bad solvent respectively. Dissolution studies carried out on the formulations. Improvement in dissolution behavior observed in formulation batches as compared to pure drug. The significant improvement in micromeritics properties observed due to size enlargement and spherical shape it revealed that the change in the crystal habit. Pure drug and formulation batches analyzed using spectroscopic methods and DSC, FTIR studies carried out and it indicates no any chemical interaction between drug and polymer.Differential scanning colorimetry and powder x- ray powder diffraction studies reveals that drug retained their crystallinity. SEM studies carried out and it indicates modification in size and shape. On the basis flowability and dissolution studies of spherical agglomerates among the different formulation A2 (Efavirenz spherical crystals with PVP K30) was further compressed in tablet and its evaluation properties was performed. In the present study micromeritics properties and dissolution improvement occurred due to overall effect of hydrophilic nature of polymer, solvents, spherical shape. Also prepared tablet shows good physicochemical properties.
