Joaquin Miller (pen name of Cincinnatus Hiner Miller), poet and author who led an adventurous life, teaching, editing, living with Indians, gold mining, practicing law, and establishing a Pony Express route between the Washington territory and Idaho. One of his most famous poems, "Kit Carson's Ride", is included in this volume.
