Description

This bundle consists of two books: a children’s picture book, Someday I’ll Be a Queen, along with a Toolbox for adults who want to teach children to play chess. How are these books different from other chess books for young children?  The picture book starts as a fairy tale about a king, a dragon and a young girl with a dream. A young girl is the main character because I want to encourage girls and make it clear that this game is also for them. The history of the game of chess is incorporated as you get acquainted with the characters. The picture book is very inviting, with plenty of funny and beautiful drawings. There is a lot to discover!  For the youngest preschoolers, it is best to tell the story in your own words, but the older preschoolers fully enjoy the rhyming story. Every chess rule is found in an attractive drawing. This was an important didactic choice made by the author. The story is told in rhyme. Preschoolers love repetition and this is a handy tool when memorizing the chess rules. The accompanying Toolbox explains in a unique way how to start playing chess: the rules, the tips and tricks anyone needs to know are presented here. The Toolbox features two parts: how to teach one pupil or a group of pupils. The author provides a unique approach, drawing on her phenomenal teaching experience over the past decades.

Author Biography:

Christel Minne has been teaching in an elementary school in Bruges for 38 years, including more than 25 years as a kindergarten teacher. After 7 years being a teacher in a traditional school, she decided to switched to the more liberal and methodological way of teaching, by starting at the Freinet school. She thought she could develop her educational skills to much more benefit in a free educational environment rather than being stuck in a traditional one. Improvisation and creativity were the key elements Christel always put first. So, finally, it came as no surprise Christel caught the idea of writing the book(s) that lie(s) in front of you. Her dynamic way of live, and teaching included empowered her to become the inspiring person 'children' need in their younger years. Chess being a handy tool, and that has clearly been proven in her book(s).These are her first books for Thinkers Publishing.
