Description

Give the gift of hope with this stunning Hope in a Box!

Each piece holds the most beautiful story perfect as a gift for any occasion. Be it a birthday, graduation, a little pick-me-up or just because you have thought of someone special, this piece carries the message of spirit, determination and ultimately hope for all.

A beautiful hand folded origami crane is made with the most intricate papers sourced from all over the world. The glass bauble is individually hand blown before it is placed inside a stunning clear box with the touching story of Sadako inscribed on the back for all to share.

The story is as follows:

“I will write peace on your wings and you will fly all over the world.” – Sadako Sasaki.

The story of Sadako follows a young girl who became very ill from the atomic effects of WWII. Bedridden in hospital, her determination and spirit gave life to an ancient legend that promised anyone who folded a thousand origami cranes would be granted one wish. It was Sadako’s desire to hope for good luck, long life, peace and recovery from her illness.

On the 25th of October 1955, Sadako sadly passed surrounded by loved ones and family. Although Sadako’s thousand paper cranes did not save her life, they would take flight in another way, serving as a symbol of the growing movement for peace on Earth.

Each year, children and adults from all over the world travel to the Children’s Peace Monument in Japan, hanging their own folded paper cranes as a gift to Sadako’s memory and as a symbol of their desire for peace.

Whilst the story is a touching one, we share the view with millions that it is rather a story of hope, triumph, inspiration and beauty. One to be shared with all those you love. We believe with all our heart that products come to life through the stories they embody and at Short Story our vision is to share the inspiration with all.

“May the act of hanging a crane symbolise our support in peace and hope, honouring Sadako’s legacy”.
