The Kenworth® nameplate dates back to 1923, when Edgar Worthington and Frederick Kent started the company in Seattle. They were pioneers in the new COE (cab over engine) truck design. This design was necessary due to government regulations that limited the overall length of semi-trucks. As the regulations changed in the Reagan era, the COE truck became less popular due to its poor ride quality when compared to that of conventional style trucks.
Today, Kenworth trucks are manufactured by PACCAR Inc., and they are still considered to be one of the best trucks on the road. The K-100 is powered by a 300 horsepower 6 cylinder diesel engine. The power is transmitted through a 10 speed transmission. The driver sits on his air ride seat and his sleeping compartment is loaded with all the comforts of home.
