Description

When their father is mysteriously taken away on unexplained charges, three children move to a simple cottage by a railway station with their mother. The children are unaware why their father had to be imprisoned. They spend their time at the railway station, meeting strange and interesting people. They become a regular sight at the station and they enchant the regular travellers with their inquisitiveness and innocence. From the "old gentleman" to a Russian exile, these girls meet many strangers and begin to learn more about the world around them. They also continue to hunt for more clues to the truth behind their father's imprisonment, and they receive some unexpected help in their search. This is a heart-warming tale of a family's troubles and the power of children to look positively towards the future.

Author Biography:

Edith Nesbit was an English writer and poet. She is best remembered for writing several children's series, including: the Bastable series, the Psammead series and the House of Arden series. This book was adapted into a film in 1970 starring Dinah Sheridan, Bernard Cribbins and William Mervyn. It was directed by Lionel Jeffries. It was also adapted into a television series four times by the BBC.
