Description

The book is in 3 chapters, the first looks at mathematical series and shows how we can get the sum of arithmetic and geometric series and how the theorem of series can be applied towards the solution of convergence and divergence. In the second chapter we look at the Newton expansion and how it can be used to accurately and quickly evaluate pi to high precision. We are introduced to the opensource GMP arbitrary precision package that massively quickens our calculations and we show how pi can be calculated to phenomenal accuracy very quickly on a modest pc. In the third chapter we look at regular convex polyhedra and we show why there are only 5 of such. we show how we can construct them from their base regular polygons. We show their visualisation in 3D design software.

Author Biography:

Olatunde Adeyemo has also written: "Matrix Magic" Which handles the topics of linear equations, and linear programming, the equations for handling projectiles in a retarding fluid and sets out how to create programs for 3D transformation of objects through general rotations or mirror imaging. "A Little Rocket Science and other Baubles" It uses a heuristic approach to solve network problems and demonstrates this in pipe network analysis in the water supply industry. The same approach is used to demonstrate how it may be used to work out the final configuration of a web of elastic members supporting various loads. We look at the rocket/payload problem, where the payload weighs much less than the fuel used to deliver it. We look at the various fuel options and make 1st order estimations of what these would take to put a known mass into orbit. "Alien Pi in the Sky" We show how the simple helical coil spring is a subtle way of amplifying the flexion properties of it's constituent material and how it can be optimised by design. We look at 1st principle stress and strain analysis in3D structures resolve loads on each member into compressional/extensional or bending or torquing. By describing the structure as network of members and connecting nodes we are able to use a computer algorithm to the static load on each member and it's status. showing we have created a very useful tool for structural analysis. It sets out how to create an extended precision system in c++ with structures and functions necessary to perform basic maths manipulations. This system is then used to calculate roots to high precision and pi with various methods.
