If you buy Race, you must buy this expansion too. Race by itself isn't complete until you have this expansion. It adds 4 more start worlds, makes military useful and is still perfectly balanced. Skip the other expansions (I haven't tried the Phase 2 one) as they just over complicate things and don't add anything to the game.
Really good game, together with original game works well for 2+ players, haven't yet played the solitaire version, but would highly recommend this game. We've literally played it more than 50 times since purchasing :-)
This first expansion for Race for the Galaxy adds cards, a 5th player, and
other ways to expand your universe. Each expansion adds one more player, more
cards, plus some goodies besides cards including objectives for players to
compete over. The first expansion includes solitaire rules. It also includes
some blank cards and a contest card for players to submit a card idea to RGG.
Two slots have been left open in the second expansion for the winners.
