Description

In the last two decades, Qatar invested in two key assets for its socio-economic development: sports and education. Both assets are closely related by the value attached to them and by the opportunities they provide to a country’s population. As a result, Qatar was awarded with the organization of the upcoming FIFA World Cup, starting on November 21st, 2022. To review the different aspects contributing to the execution of one of the largest events in the world the book will first provide an overview of the socio-economic condition of Qatar. Next, it will examine the increasing number of major sporting events hosted in the country. It will also go into the detail about the process that led Qatar to win the bid for the FIFA World Cup, including diverse projects developed to support the execution of the event. The book will also shed light on the significant effort that the state of Qatar has put into capacity building and into creating a solid legacy through human capital development, capable of profoundly shaping the future of the country. The goal of the book is to describe facts and initiatives in an authentic way, highlighting good practices and controversies.
