Author Biography:

Nikhil Kar, PhD, PE, holds PE licenses in both Metallurgical and Materials and Mechanical Engineering. He also holds a PhD from the University of Southern California and has extensive teaching, consulting, and research experience. At USC, Dr. Kar developed and taught his own graduate-level engineering course; he has also developed review courses for both the Metallurgical and Materials PE Exam and the Mechanical Engineering PE Exam. Since 2013, he has been employed as Principal Engineer at KARS' Advanced Materials, Inc., where he performs origin and cause investigations into various materials and product failures. Lessa Grunenfelder, PhD, received her doctorate in Materials Science in 2012 from the University of Southern California. Dr. Grunenfelder is currently full-time faculty at USC, teaching materials science at both the undergraduate and graduate level. She has also taught review courses for the Metallurgical and Materials PE Exam.Yinghui Hu, PhD, has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California and has years of experience in finite element simulation and stress/strain failure analysis. He has been a teaching assistant for several undergraduate and graduate courses at USC, and has also taught review courses for the Mechanical PE Exam.
