Description

Using archival material, Lawrence Tal examines how Jordan remained stable during the volatile period between 1955 and 1967. Tal asserts that Jordan's security was due primarily to the cohesion of its National Security Establishment, a ruling coalition of security and foreign policy professionals that included the monarchy, the political elite and the military.

Author Biography:

LAWRENCE TAL is currently working for Shell Exploration and Production International. He completed his doctoral and masters degree in Middle East politics at the University of Oxford and was a lecturer in politics at Trinity College, Oxford. His articles have appeared in Foreign Affairs and the Times Literary Supplement.
