Description

This collection of short stories, poetry and essays by newcomer Phoebe Wilby highlights the truth in the statement that "everyone has a story to tell". Phoebe lays a fresh perspective on the ordinary, and not so ordinary, events of everyday life in her 13 stories, seven poems and three essays. Her writing style emphasises the point that even the mundane can become interesting depending on the points of view of the reader and the story teller. It's all relative, really. The collection is named for "Point of View", her winning entry of the 2002 Golden Key International Honour Society Literary Achievement Award for Excellence in Fiction. "Point of View" is a fictionalised account of the effect of the September 11 tragedy in 2001 on the lives of three survivors and clearly demonstrates the theme of this collection.

Author Biography:

Originally from Australia, Phoebe now lives in West Yorkshire with her husband Ewen and two of her five children. She has always loved the written word - but couldn't tell you who her favourite author is. She doesn't have just one! She reads anything from cereal packets through historical romances to Sci-Fi / Fantasy, and pretty much anything in between. She discovered Tolkien in her early twenties and more recently has read JK Rowling's Harry Potter series (a couple of times) and Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series. She even went through a crime stage, reading Nora Roberts and Patricia Cornwell, as well as a horse-racing phase with Dick Francis. Basically, if it had words, she'd read it! Her earliest childhood memories of writing include a ghost story she wrote in Year 4 and a humorous story involving her head teacher's fear of thunderstorms in Year 6. Sadly she no longer has copies of these and would have loved to revisit them to see how her style has developed over the years. She is working on a couple of novels, but has yet to finish them. In the meantime she offers this collection of short stories, poetry and essays.
