Pirates of the burning sea is a rather hard game to sum up.
It has a lot of nuances that are not immediately apparent, and it can sometimes talk until around level 8 or so until you realise the finer points of the game.
The Good: The Ship combat. And thats a good thing as this is where you will spend most of your time. It is addictive grinding through quests so you can reach the next level to own a larger ship. Joining a battle alongside a frigate will leave you feeling insignificant, while coming to the aid of an out gunned player in a smaller ship is very satisfying. Your ships are customisable, you can change the paint schemes, and have a number of upgrade slots you can buy or find items to fill. While questing alone gets a tad stale, finding a group opens up a whole new dimension, especially when coupled with Vent. Complicated naval manuvers are able to be put into practice with great effect.
The Bad: Hand to hand combat is mediocre. no button mashing here. Boarding combat is identical each time, animations are canned and repetitive. You can only own 3 ships, nor resell them afterwards, this makes you think twice about buying a new one. Limited base facial options for characters.
The Inbetween:
Graphically – Quite pretty, but not cutting edge. Sometimes you will see damage appear split seconds before the enemy cannon even fires. The Economy – Is completely player driven. Everything you want to buy is made by someone. Understanding the Economy can be very complicated indeed. Constructing a ship is a major undertaking that requires the cooperation of several players working on different components. A Ship builder who cannot find any rigging is going to have a very hard time making any ships.
A nice change from WoW.
