Description

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION This first volume contains Enrique Krauze's splendid conversations with world-class thinkers and writers, whose theme is history, free thought, and the critique of ideologies. These include Jorge Luis Borges, Irving Howe, Isaiah Berlin, Octavio Paz, Leszek Kolakowski, Charles Hale, Joseph Maier, Hugh Thomas, Paul Kennedy, Daniel Bell, Mario Vargas Llosa, Luis Gonzalez y Gonzalez, and Miguel Leon Portilla, among others. The conversations paint a small map: one of certain affections, certain devotions, certain passions, certain causes that have occupied the work and days of a Mexican writer. To be more explicit, it includes a chat in which Christopher Dominguez Michael subjects Krauze to a detailed interrogation. Perhaps it throws some light onto the motives that guided him--that still guide him--the historian's penchant for "talking about people and ideas with people of ideas."
