Description

Raphael Israeli's work studies a selection of failed solutions to the Palestinian problem and then proposes a novel solution. The Palestinian identity is triangulated between Israel, the Territories (Gaza and the West Bank) and Jordan. To "square the triangle" a durable peace must be reached and maintained throughout the region. Israeli suggests viewing all of the Palestinian peoples as one unit and all of Palestine as a single unit. By dividing the land into the state of Palestine (East) and Israel (West) and creating a system that allows an individual to reside in one state yet maintain the nationality of the other, the contradictory needs of all parties in this conflict can be met. The introduction of the book gives an overview of the roots and historical development of the intricate and emotion-laden problems of the Palestinians and the territories administered by Israel since 1967. Each of the eight subsequent chapters sets forth, analyzes and debates the merits of the "solutions" devised so far. The final chapter challenges conventions with a new option: making sure that no one gets everything, everyone gets something and anyone who gets something pays for it.
