The dual-language book contains approximately 150 fairy tales and folk tales taken from a three volume scholarly work collected by Franz von Schonwerth and published in the 1850s. Translator, Charlotte Wolf has transcribed the folk tale selections with the German text on one side and the English translation facing. An introduction will contain critical material, with footnotes, about fairy tales from Germany and from East Bavaria in particular, and on Schonwerth and his legacy. The tales is grouped thematically (e.g., Giants, Death, Witches, etc.), with titles such as "The Spinster Bride," The Hell's Boy from Hirschau," and "The Marriage of [the] Sun and Moon

Author Biography:

Our Dover Translator/author Charlotte Wolf was born and raised in Germany, Charlotte Wolf has lived in the USA for almost twenty years, working as a freelance translator and editor, teacher, school administrator, and web content developer. Charlotte earned her Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies (Literature & Women's Studies), an M.A. in German, a graduate degree in Education Administration, and a number of teaching- and language-related certifications (such as ESL, German, Language Arts, and Translation). One of her specialties is literary translation; another is translating "Sutterlin" (traditional German handwriting). She has already published three books with Dover Publications, Inc.
