This outstanding film, directed and choreographed by the legendary Rudolf Nureyev, premiered in Sydney in 1973, had a Royal Gala Performance in London in 1974, went briefly to New York, and despite receiving rave reviews, promptly disappeared.
Lost to the world for 25 years, this masterpiece has been painstakingly
restored with full surround sound in digital stereo.
It features Rudolf Nureyev as Basilio, Sir Robert Helpmann as Don Quixote and
Lucette Aldous as Kitri.
Widely regarded as one of the defining performances of a ballet, Don Quixote was instrumental in shaping the legacy and legend of Nureyev. The ballet was filmed over four weeks in a converted aircraft hangar in Essendon, Victoria in 1973; among the DVD’s special features is a documentary, A Little of Don Quixote, following the recording process in fascinating detail.
