Spring break at the beach implies getting a break, doesn't it? Caroline Peters isn't your everyday college intern. Her superiors don't push papers, they police the paranormal activity around the country in an attempt to keep it from public attention. When Caroline stumbles across a mage friend, Lucas, beaten and hiding in an alley while coming home from her last class before spring break, her vacation is suddenly a lot less sunny. The two of them go undercover with Spark, another college mage, to dig up clues as to who is after him and why they're desperate enough to send goons after him for a rusty old dagger.
