While not as good as the TV series, (with Hannah Gordon handpicked by Gerry Durrell to play his mother and Brian Blessed as a brilliant Spiro), this is about as good as you could get in a film length adaptation. Matthew Goode as Larry and Imelda Staunton as Mrs Durrell were standouts in the film and while the time constraints made it less quirky than the book there was just enough left to enjoy. This is definitely worth watching if you are a fan of Durrell's books.
