Description

Sir John Eliot Gardiner conducts Mozart's Requiem for 'Mozart Year'. DVD brings together outstanding performances of Mozart's two greatest choral works. To commemorate the bicentenary of Mozart’s death, Sir John Eliot Gardiner conducted a unique concert, bringing together Mozart’s two greatest choral works with four of the world’s leading soloists. Filmed on 5 December 1991 in the magnificent art nouveau setting of Barcelona’s Palau de la Música Catalana, this inspiring occasion proved a fitting homage to the great composer. The disc features both CD-quality stereo and a DTS 5.1 surround sound. The disc additionally features two substantial extras: an 18-page on-screen and comprehensive Mozart Chronology, listing and dating all the major works and events in the great composer's life, plus a Mozart Picture Gallery containing over 25 images, including several famous paintings of Mozart. This release is one of three new DVD releases, marking the forthcoming 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth, in January 2006. The others are a collection of Mozart’s choral works, sung by the legendary Vienna Boys’ Choir, and a dazzling performance of Mozart’s last two symphonies, given by Riccardo Muti and the Vienna Philharmonic at a Salzburg Festival concert in 1991.
