Description

Movie Star Chronicles is an in-depth, original and fascinating guide to 320 of the world's greatest stars, from the era of silent film to the blockbusters of today. It will include stars such as Cary Grant, Clint Eastwood and Ryan Gosling, as well as Audrey Hepburn, Penelope Cruz and Jennifer Lawrence, giving a critique of their careers, infographic timelines and stunning photographs to show how they developed. The text is written by a team of experts and overseen by Ian Haydn Smith to give an entertaining overview. The colour-coded timelines offer at-a-glance guides to the key releases. There will also be feature spreads on particular themes, such as femme fatales, westerns, cops and acting dynasties.

Author Biography

IAN HAYDN SMITH is a U.K.-based writer and editor. As a journalist he has written on film and the arts for numerous media outlets, both print and broadcast. From 2007 to 2012 he was editor of International Film Guide. Since 2011 he has been editor of Curzon Magazine and is series editor of 24 Frames. He has spoken at film festivals and cultural events around the world, both as a critic and as a representative of the British Council. He has interviewed a variety of filmmakers and artists, including Ralph Fiennes, Clint Eastwood, Isabelle Huppert, Alan Bennett, Ang Lee, Terry Gilliam and Anton Corbijn. He has written books on Chinese cinema and Wim Wenders, and is currently working on a biography of American filmmaker Sidney Lumet. Recent publications include editing the updated edition of 1001 Movies to See Before You Die. He lives in London.
