Description

I was happy to come upon Miracles after my husband Alan's death in 2015. While it was written in the 1960s and dedicated to the memory of David Hahn, it was one of my favorite, imaginative, cinematic novels that Alan wrote and which was highly praised by cinematic critic Pauline Kael and author Paul Bellow. It is as fresh in conception and execution as it was the day Alan wrote it. I am happy to get it into print. With love

Author Biography:

Alan Marcus is a graduate of Brown University and has been a professional writer since 1946. His work has been critically acclaimed by the likes of Archibald MacLeish, Saul Bellow, Dorothy Parker, Kenneth Patchen, Harvey Swados, and Granville Hicks. He is a novelist (Straw to Make Brick, Of Streets and Stars), a short story writer (Atlantic "first" winner, annual O'Henry collection honors), award-winning playwright (Pity For the Blind), and distinguished radio dramatist (The Peabody-Award-Winning program, "The Eternal Light"). He is a former Guggenheim Fellow, a colonist at the McDowell Colony, foreign correspondent accredited to both The Nation and The Atlantic Monthly, and lecturer in aesthetics at the UCSC in Santa Cruz, CA. . He has also scripted (pseudonymously) over a dozen feature films and thrice that many television dramas, and in the 1960s was the creator of a hit series, "Here Come the Brides" for ABC. He also conceived and directed a public radio series---during the height of the Cold War----"Three Minutes to Midnight" ---deploring and stigmatizing the depraved nuclear "overkill" syndrome which the US & the USSR were then helplessly entrapped in (and to which the rest of the world remained helpless hostage). It was produced locally on KAZU, public radio for the Monterey Peninsula, and was then loaned, gratis, to other FM public stations throughout the country....
