Description

This illustrated book shows lacemakers of all levels of ability how to make the decorated braids of the kind first used in early Milanese lace. More advanced instructions are then given showing how the same braids may be worked into original pieces. These pieces are then incorporated into a variety of patterns covering both traditional and modern designs. With full instructions for pattern-making and extensive notes on technique, it is hoped that lacemakers will build on the wide range of patterns and create their own designs. Patricia Read was taught by Elsie Vanstone and has taught lace making since 1949. Lucy Kincaid is studying under Patricia Read and has a special interest in the modern approach to lace making.
