Michael Palin starting from Gibraltar travels across to Africa and starts his way around the Sahara. For gamers, and there are many of them on this site, a highlight would have to be Fez. It looks just like the cities you run around in, in Assassins Creed.

Palin again uses his masterful control of English to weave an atmosphere far deeper than the pictures along can tell. This is a really beautiful area.

Probably the only issue is that it's short. Unfortunately the BBC had decided that no-one really wanted to see things about the Sahara, so it's only 4 episodes. But the DVD does come backed with extras, lots of deleted scenes, and Palin's own video diary. This makes the DVD well worth purchasing.

Sahara – Michael Palin sets out on a journey unlike anything he’s done before. As the journey unfolds the Sahara reveals not the emptiness of endless sand dunes but a huge and diverse range of cultures and landscapes and a long history of civilisation, trade, commerce and conquests stretching from the Ancient Egyptians to the oil rich Islamic Republics of today. From Tangier, Fex and Marrakech, across the Atlas Mountains and down the Niger River, Michael experiences the effects of camel stew, the Desert Ore Train and the city of Timbuktu. This is Michael Palin, explorer-adventurer, at his very best.
