Description

Metal Chalcogenide Biosensors: Fundamentals and Applications provides an overview of advances in materials development of chalcogenides for use in biosensing and sensing applications. The metal chalcogenides discussed include highly reactive metals, noble metals and transition metals. Particular attention is given to the morphology, porosity, structure and fabrication of materials for biosensing applications. The connection between the chalcogenides’ physical and chemical properties and device performance is explored. Key parameters for biosensor devices are investigated such as thermodynamics, kinetics, selectivity, sensitivity, efficiency and durability to aid in materials selection. Finally, a range of biosensor devices are addressed including gas biosensors, chemical biosensors, environment biosensors and biological molecule sensors. This book is suitable for those in the fields of materials science and engineering, chemistry and physics.

Author Biography:

Dr. Ali Salehabadi obtained his PhD in Polymer Chemistry from School of Chemical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2014. Ali is currently postdoctoral fellow in the Environmental Technology Division, School of Industrial Technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He is a chemist with the background of polymer chemistry and solid-state energetic materials (Nanomaterials, MOFs, Polymers), with applications in sensors, storage and solar systems. His academic and research experiences provided him with a strong background in multiple disciplines in chemistry, advanced materials, and environments. He published more than 40 papers in top-tier journals including three US-patents, and chapter books. Dr. Morteza Enhessari earned his PhD in inorganic chemistry from the Science and research branch, Islamic Azad University, Tehran, Iran, in 2008. He is currently Associate Professor of Chemistry at Naragh Branch of Islamic Azad University. His research interests are pioneered in the synthesis and characterization of Perovskite Nanopowders. He also awarded as "Highly commended paper 2014 (Emerald Group Publishing Limited)" for work on Cr1.3Fe0.7O3 nanopigments. Enhessari has more than 50-refereed publications and three granted US- Patents. Dr. Mardiana Idayu Ahmad obtained her Ph.D. in Engineering Science: Sustainable Energy Technologies at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering, University of Nottingham United Kingdom in 2011. She is currently a Associate Professor in the Environmental Technology Division, School of Industrial Technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Her research spans in the breadth of sustainable energy technologies and environmental management. She has always been passionate about continuing her research in a way to bridge these two fields. She has numerous publications including journal papers, research books, popular academic books, book chapters, conference proceedings, and other publications. Dr. Norli Ismail holds a Bachelor-Degree in Environmental Science from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Master-Degree in Chemical Processes and a PhD in Environmental Technology from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Dr. Norli completed her Ph.D. in October 2003 before proceeding to join the School of Industrial Technology as a lecturer in Environmental Technology Division. Since 2018, she has worked as a Dean of the School of Industrial Technology, USM. She is an expert in various areas of environmental science with emphasis on water quality, management issues, and treatability studies in relation to water, wastewater and analytical testing. She actively involved in the technical aspects of biological and physico-chemical treatability studies, bioremediation research, environmental analytical techniques. Dr. B.D. Gupta is a Professor in the Physics Department at the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India. He earned his PhD in 1979 at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and since then has developed expertise in a wide range of sensor topics.
