This books focuses on all main medical disorders that affect the sexual health of patients. From the medical disorder and its impact on sexuality and from the sexual symptom as signal of underlying disease, this book highlights the importance of the sexual interview as essential element of medical history. The aim is to increase the scientific knowledge in human sexuality and sexual health in order to optimize the identification of the pathophysiology of sexual dysfunction from disease and to increase the quality of life of patients, promoting the proactivity of doctors in the care of the sexual sphere. Many medical disorders have negative effects on the different dominions of sexual function (desire, arousal, orgasm, ejaculation, and pain). Chronic disease also affects subsidiarily sexual function in many ways, including fatigue, pain, dependency impairment of self-image and impacting relationships. On the other hand sexual symptoms may be a signal of serious underlying disease. This book will be of benefit to GPs, gynecologists, andrologists, sexual medicine professionals, and all healthcare providers interested in the topic.  

Author Biography:

Dr. Camil Castelo-Branco MD, PhD, MsC, RAMC, RAED  is full professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and he is the Director of Surgery and Medical-Surgical Specialties Department at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB). He is also the director of the master degree in Clinical Sexology and Sexual Health at the UB. He is currently working at Hospital Clínic in Barcelona as Senior Consultant and Director of the Gynecological Endocrinology Unit and of the Clinical Sexology working group. Dr Castelo-Branco was member of the Executive Board of the International Menopause Society-IMS (2008-2018), Chairman of the Council of Affiliated Menopause Societies (2014-2018) Member of the Executive Board of the Spanish Menopause Society (AEEM 2006-2010). Founder member of the Spanish Menopause Society. Chairman and founder of the Osteoporosis Group of the Ob Gyn Spanish Society. Presently, he is member of the Board of Directors of the European Society of Gynecology (ESG 2021- ), Deputy Treasurer of the ESG (2021- ) and Editor in Chief of the European Gynecology and Obstetrics journal. He is honorary member of several Ob-Gyn and Menopause Societies abroad including Portuguese, Colombian, Argentine, Peruvian, Chilean, Galician. Research Interest: Gynecological endocrinology  and clinical sexology. More than 300 original articles and reviews in national and international peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Sonia Anglès Acedo MD, PhD, MSc. is Associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Universitat de Barcelona and Professor at Master degree on Clinical Sexuality and Sexual Health. Senior Specialist of Urogynaecology Unit and secretary of the Clinical Sexology Working Group at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.  Accredited researcher (R3A) of the Gynecological endocrinology and human reproduction Group at the Fundació de Recerca Clínic Barcelona-Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer(FRCB-IDIBAPS).
