Description

MATTHEW HENSON AND THE ICE TEMPLE OF HARLEM is the first in an exciting new series from legendary author Gary Phillips that blends fact with fiction in an Indiana Jonesesque adventure, and is the first winter title for Agora. Gary Phillips is an icon in the field who has written, edited or contributed to over 40 novels, anthologies and graphic novels. His established fan base will eagerly await this new book. Phillips' extensive community spans several genres, so we expect endorsements from major voices in crime fiction, science fiction, and graphic novel fields as well as significant off-the-page coverage. The unique story of a black Indiana Jones-style adventurer encountering real-life figures from history will also appeal to a variety of readers of many ages. The author will do local events, and other markets as we deem appropriate. Author will promote the book at popular conferences like Bouchercon, NoirCon, San Diego ComiC-Con, Left Coast Crime, Wonder-con and Rose City Comic-con.

Author Biography:

Gary Phillips is the son of a mechanic and a librarian. He was weaned on too many comic books, Dashiell Hammett stories, reruns of the original Twilight Zone, and experiences ranging from community organizer to delivering dog cages. His 1950s set graphic novel the Be-Bop Barbarians riffs on race relations, jazz, police brutality and the Red Scare. His novel Violent Spring was the first such mystery set in the aftermath of the 1992 civil unrest, and he edited the Anthony award-winning anthology, The Obama Inheritance: Fifteen Stories of Conspiracy Noir. He is story editor on FX’s “Snowfall,” about crack and the CIA in 1980s South Central where he grew up. Visit him at https://gdphillips.com
