Description

Forberg (1770-1848) was a German philosopher and classical scholar. His philosophical publications are less well known than his 1824 edition of an erotic poem sequence in renaissance Latin, Hermaphroditus by Antonio Beccadillo, which was accompanied by his own learned commentary which took the form of a catalogue and anthology of descriptions of sexual acts and postures in classical and later literature. This commentary is better known as a separate publication under the title De figuris Veneris. This 1884 English translation of De figuris Veneris was printed in a limited edition of 100 copies for private circulation only.
