Description

Suzannah and Adrian are planning to marry in May, the loveliest time of the year. Suzannah has always wanted a large and beautiful wedding and feels she missed out on one the first time round. In fact, she and Cal, father of her daughter Isis, never got round to marrying at all, though they meant to and loved each other deeply at the time. Now that tense moment - one that happens before every wedding - has come: the two families are to meet. Will the gathering go smoothly? Will they like each other - the slightly bohemian Gratrixes from Cheshire and the wealthy Ashtons from the Home Counties? The meeting will take place on neutral territory, at a lunch party in the home of Suzannah's Aunt Charlotte in London. A mood of festivity and celebration prevails. Adrian's father, Gray Ashton, arrives a little late by which time everyone has assembled. When he enters the room, Joss Gratrix, Suzannah's mother, turns frighteningly pale and hurries from the scene, leaving Suzannah to wonder why on earth this man should have such a devastating effect on her mother? The stage is set for an utterly engrossing tale as only Adele Geras can tell them. Dramas, conflicts, shifts of allegiance and sulks; revelations, surprises, quarrels and reconciliations - all will be contained in these pages as the various generations of two families plus several outsiders move forward towards the inevitable Big Day. Not everyone will get what they want. Not all marriages are made in heaven ...
