LP4 is the new album from New York City electronic music duo Ratatat, released by XL.

Ratatat are guitarist Mike Stroud & synthesizer, bass player & producer Evan Mast. The pair recorded the tracks found on LP4 at the same Old Soul Studios on Catskill, NY, as their previous album, the acclaimed LP3. In fact, LP4 was recorded straight after the prolific sessions which produced LP3, though the new album plays with even more unexpected experimental sounds & has been described as a “weirder” listen than LP3.

Incorporating never-used-before sounds & instruments into the mix & working with a full string section, LP4 also features a number of spoken word interludes, one taken from Werner Herzog’s 1977 film Stroszek & the rest of the samples courtesy of Linda Manz, the child actress in Terence Mallick’s 1978 classic Days Of Heaven. Whilst trying to clear the spoken word sample from the film, Mast unexpectedly ended up meeting with Linda herself where he recorded an interview with her, & the excerpts make up the remaining vocal snippets.

In between LP3 & LP4, Ratatat remixed Bjork & worked with Kid Cudi on his self-titled debut album - in fact, the Cleveland-bred MC credits Ratatat’s music as inspiration for his huge single Day n’ Nite…
