Charles Etienne Arthur Gayarr� (January 9, 1805 - February 11, 1895) was born in New Orleans in what is now Audubon Park. A lawyer, judge, state legislator and United States Senator, he is most remembered as one of the foremost historians on New Orleans and Louisiana. This photographic reproduction of his 1851 history of Louisiana is one of the most respected and enjoyed works on Louisiana history in print.
